Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry Tuticorin
The Merchants’ Association was established in June 1913 to serve as a forum to speak for and protect the interests of merchants, and its activities were confined to local issues. After the world war, realizing the need to reshape the economy, the Associations’s activities were restructure and with the willing co-operation of the local trade, the name of Merchants’ Association was changed to “Indian Chamber of Commerce, Tuticorin” was brought into being in may 1922.
After obtaining a License in 1925 from the Government for Registration with limited liability, without addition of the world ‘limited’, the chamber was duly incorporated under the Indian Companies Act, 1913 in 1925. Our Chamber’s present membership is more than 400 which includes corporate houses and other trade associations.
The Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which was founded way back in the year 1925. (affiliated to Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi) is a nodal agency for the trade and industry at Tuticorin and rendering its service for propelling the growth of Trade and Industries in and around Tuticorin. It gives immense satisfaction to the Chamber to see the phenomenal growth of the town in all the segments such as Industry, Trade, Shipping infrastructure development etc.,
The ‘Best Exporters’ and ‘Port Users-Award’ was instituted by Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the year 1985. The best performers are duly adjudged by VOC Port Trust. This award is being presented for the past 33 year in succession, all through the years. Honourable Ministers have presided over this prestigious ceremony. Former Chief Minister of Tamilandu. Dr. Kaliagnar M. Karunanidhi, Former union Ministers Mr.Sathrughan Sinha, Mr.T.R.Baalu, Mr.E.V.K.S. Elangovan, Mr.G.K.Vasan, the present Honourable union minister Shri.Pon Rathakrishnan and other leading dignitaries have graced this function. Nearly 21 Best Exporters and Port Users are being awarded and honoured every year.

To make available for guidance, advice or business purpose, the practical experience and expertise in trade matters of individual or corporate members.
Industrial Excellence Award
The Chamber has instituted “Industrial Excellence Award” and it is presented to all major Industries in this Region to recognize big corporates and encourage new entrepreneur to establish Industries in this Region. The Chamber also presents “Super Brands Award-Made in Thoothukudi” to the outstanding business houses of this region and also “Hospitality Award” to leading hotels and resorts.
As a commitment towards social responsibility the Chamber has instituted an endowment to encourage and motivate young talent. The ‘Best student Award’ function is being organized for the last 31 years. The students of standard XII and X who have secured the highest mark in Tuticorin District are honoured and awarded with cash prizes in a grand function every year, to motivate the students.
